"No one but Mr. Kapasi noticed."
(I.O.M. page 166)
If they both hadn't been married, my heart would have broken at this point. The poor guy invisions himself falling in love with a wonderful lady, saving her from her present despair. As it turns out, he's married, she is too, and she is a self-absorbed rodent that cares nothing for the people around her. That's pretty much the plot in a nutshell. Until I read the last paragraph, this story had reminded me a great deal of Napoleon Dynamite. Who cares about this diva with a strawberry on her shirt and mustard oil on her hands and lips with three unruly kids and a husband? AH! Mr. Kapasi cares! She was his dream, something for him to hold on to when he's lonely or sad, something to look forward to. His hopes for a new life are blown away like the wind that took his address information. Not that she would have written anyway, she's too self-absorbed. Also, I do NOT condone affairs of anything of the sort, I just thought that the potential made the story a bit more entertaining.
