NEAR!!! FAR!!! where EVER YOU ARE!!!

"Nobody, I myself. Farewell.
Commend me to my kind lord. Oh, farewell!"
(Desdemona, V. ii. 123,124)

I left you hangin on the edge of your seat with my last post where I refused to reveal what I believe to be the moral of the story. Well, kick back, because I'm gonna spill the beans! While at first it seems like Shakespeare is glorifying murder and suicide, I think if one analyzes each person's death, we can get a better understanding of what Shakespeare was trying to get across. Desdemona was the first to bite the dust (or should I say "down"? heheh). Her death reveals two things: her angry husband, but also her unwavering devotion. She was incredibly faithful to Othello. She could have ratted out her murderer and been no worse off. However, she understood Othello and was so forgiving that she saved him, however temporarily. Othello's death shows that even the best can crumble. Once, Mrs. Miles told me "we read sad stories because in real life, the guy doesn't always get the girl!" Words of wisdom. While Othello had Desdemona, he lost her to his rage and envy. He's a prime example of what NOT to do. Now, my next post shall be all about my favorite (in a sense) death...
