Brave New World #1 "Ye Be Warned"

"The light was frozen, dead, a ghost. (BNW, page 3)"

When my brother, Father John, found out that I'd be reading this book for English, he told me "it's like Jason Bourne, but the government wins." Naturally, I prepared myself for an interesting, high-intensity book about something exciting. As of right now, I am on page 11 and I am DISGUSTED. Sickened, repulsed, abhorred, and all the other synonyms for disgusting on dictionary.com. All of this talk about "major instruments of social stability" is horrifying because I feel it is so similar to what is happening in society today with in vitro fertilization and cloning. You can't dehumanize humanity; when you do, evil pours in to society and the world goes dark. The diction used on the first page tipped me off that there was something wrong at work in this society: "corpse-colored" gloves, light that was "frozen, dead, a ghost". Now, I'm no expert, but judging by wording, things seem to be messed up.
